Nabi: A biography.

While I was going through old files, I bumped into this biography I wrote for a speech class in my junior year. This just brings back the memories. I realized how much I’ve changed and how much I didn’t. I also missed my Dad a lot after reading this. It is really awesome to get to write in the third person ‘cause it’s like seeing yourself in a different perspective. So here it goes:

One cold Saturday morning, at 6:00 am, September 9. 1994, a child was born. She weighed 9.2 pounds; she was so big that she caused so much pain to her mother during delivery. She definitely looked like her father. Dark skin, single eyelids, cute nose, and heart shaped lips. She was supposed to be an only child, so she was spoiled. She always gets what she wanted, and she is, indeed, the luckiest girl in the world. She has the most wonderful parents , Rommel and Bernadette, and after four years, she was given the prettiest and the most adorable sister, Mari. A perfect family, but she didn’t know of what is to come.

One morning, she woke up and realized that the world she thought was perfect, had crumbled down and fell down on her. It’s not easy, especially if you’re only 6 years old, and when you don’t know what’s happening. You know what she did? She prayed hard. She asked God for guidance, especially for her little sister, who was so young. They say that things happen for a reason, and these things will make you a better person in one way or another. And that’s what happened. Yes, her parents got separated, for a reason that she does not know until now. So many things unsaid, so many things left unexplained, but she has this one thing in her mind. She has to continue living on her life. So, she lived a very happy life. She tried to forget the event that changed her life. It was not normal to grow up without both parents, but maybe because she is young, the pain subsided fast. She is not taking things seriously.

She grew up with her grandparents (father’s side). She is separated from her sister, but God is good. So he replaced her with the best cousins anyone could ever wish for. They were angels, namely Kristine, Lara and Paolo. Her grandmother, Soledad, became her mother, and she loves her grandmother so much. God knows that she will give up on anything, except for these people that she loves so much, and loves her back.

She easily fits into a crowd, and she will always find a way to make other people laugh. She loves doing that because it makes her heart happy. She has this unusual desire for attention. Always wants to be on the spotlight. Maybe it’s her insecurities that frustrate her, so she makes everything to do well on what she does best. She did great, because she wanted her parents to realize that she is strong. That she can do whatever she wants, even without them by her side. In High School, she started looking for things. Sure she is used to that kind of life already, but she feels like there is emptiness. Although her father is always there beside her through thick and thin, there comes a time when you seek things that are supposed to be yours. She has matured a lot, and started taking life seriously. That’s the time that she and the people around her created what she is today, and what she wants to be in the future. She likes dancing, singing, performing for people. She also likes cooking, swimming, dressing up, making friends and a lot more. She wants to try everything, because she likes the rush of adventure and first time experiences. There is only one life to live, and you should live it to the fullest.

She likes the color green and yellow and white. She thinks that these are happy colors, and seeing them can make you cheer up. Her love for the Korean culture is very noticeable. She likes it so much that she started learning their language. For her, the best boy band in the world is Big Bang, and the best girl group is Girls’ Generation. To see them is a big fulfillment for a fangirl like her.

She has a big heart, and she always loves unconditionally, which is sometimes a bad thing. When she loves, she gives it all, especially to her friends. That’s why maybe she is always the one that is hurt. But she won’t show that. She won’t let anybody know that she is weak. That’s a trait that she kept since she was little.

She now has the best friends, Nicole, Margarita, Jemimah, Cattleya, Millen, Sarah, Alen and Owey. They were always there for her. They are almost her soul mates. We all have friends, but there will always be those who will stand out and make that difference in your life. Those friends who will make you realize that life is worth living, no matter what.

She wanted to be a world class chef someday. That was her dream, ever since she was a little kid. But now, she wanted to be a doctor. Her father was in and out of the hospital for two years, and she was the only one who took care of him. She saw all of her father’s sufferings, and she was amazed by how her father’s doctors did everything to make him better. She thinks that doctors and nurses are angels. She wanted to be one, and she wanted to give back to God the mercy He has given her father. She researched and promised that she will go to the best school to be the best doctor. She will go to the University of Sto. Tomas.

Now, all that is left is fulfilling her dreams. She is confident that these dreams will all come true, as long as she has the people who loves her, and accepts her for who she is. You might be wondering who this “she” is. Maridette P. Noceda is the girl behind all those ‘she’s. Maridette wants you to call her Nabi. Nabi is Korean for butterfly, and maybe she is one. Now, she is in her cocoon, just waiting to break out and be a real butterfly. Someday she’ll fly high to show other people what she’s become after all the challenges life gave her. Strong and beautiful.
